Are you planning to install vinyl siding on your home, but you're not really sure how it is done? Here is what you can expect to have happen when vinyl siding is installed.
Corner Cap Installation
One of the first things that needs to be done is installing the corner caps on your home. As the name implies, these are the pieces of vinyl siding that go onto the corners and extend vertically up the side of your home. These are the pieces that the horizontal vinyl siding pieces slide into.
It's important to know that vinyl siding is not placed tightly into the corner cap. Instead, the pieces are loosely inserted into it. This allows the material to have room for expansion when the material gets hot in the summer
Starter Strip Placement
A special starting strip is placed along the bottom of the vinyl siding along each wall of your home. The starter strip is much thinner than the other pieces and gives something for the first row of siding material to attach to. Much like with the corner cap, the starter strip does not get installed tightly with the first row of shingles. It is designed to loosely slide into the material to prevent it from moving.
Nail Placement
If you take a look at how the nails secure the vinyl siding to your home, you'll also notice that the nails are not being driven tightly against the material. This is intentional, because the vinyl expands and contracts. If the nail was inserted tightly against the siding material and your home, the material would crack because it couldn't expand and contract appropriately.
Vinyl Section Placement
There is also a method used to hide the seams in the vinyl siding so that it is not noticeable to others. This is done by taking into consideration the direction that the siding will be viewed from most often, which is from the front of your home.
The siding along the side of your home should have the sections that overlap. However, the pieces closest to the front of your home need to be overlapped on top of the next section going toward the back of the home. When viewed from the front side of your home, those lines will blend in and not be noticeable, but you will see them from the opposite direction from the back of your home.
